PEERS®
PEERS® is a 14-week evidence-based social skills training program for adults with ASD who are interested in learning skills to make and keep friends and develop romantic relationships. During each group session, participants are taught important social skills and are given the opportunity to practice these skills in session. They are then given weekly socialization homework assignments to practice skills in real life situations

Young adults will learn:
• Use appropriate conversational skills
• Be a good host during get-togethers
• Find common interests by trading information
• Make phone calls and texts to friends
• Let someone know you are interested in dating
• Use humor appropriately
• Choose good friends
• Ask someone on a date and have successful dates
• Exit and enter conversations appropriately
• Handle arguments and disagreements

Program participants must be 18 or over, graduated from high school and motivated to participate.
TIME – 3 hours per week for 14 weeks

What are social skills programs for adults with autism?
One of the most successful social skills programs is called PEERS® developed by Dr. Liz Laugeson out of UCLA. It is a unique initiative for adults with ASD who are having difficulty with elements of social interaction at home, or school, or work.
How can adults improve their social skills with autism?
During the 14 week course, young adults will improve their social skills by practicing entering and exiting conversations; proper use of electronic forms of communication, including safety suggestions for online dating; choosing appropriate friends; handling arguments and disagreements with friends; having appropriate get-togethers with friends, how to handle peer pressure; and proper dating etiquette.
