Response Inhibition is the capacity to think before acting. This ability to resist the urge to say or do something allows us the time to evaluate a situation and how our behavior might impact it. That is why response inhibition plays such a key role in our lives: it makes us more socially aware of our surroundings and therefore enables us to foresee the repercussions of our actions.
This coaching tool kit employs a 3-step process to help individuals with ASD improve response inhibition. You will start by exploring the ways that response inhibition weakness affects your daily life. Next, you will choose from a list of strategies that tend to be helpful for improving response inhibition. Lastly, you will set up a strategic plan to make improvements in specific areas of your life. After you have worked on these improvements, you will reflect back on your progress to improve self awareness.
